Evaluating Your Sample

Viewing Conditions

  • Examine samples in your actual installation space
  • View under both natural daylight and your artificial lighting
  • Check appearance at different times of day
  • Place sample flat and upright to see how light affects appearance

Testing Your Sample

  • Test with common household substances to observe stain resistance
  • Feel texture and weight to assess quality
  • Apply water to observe absorption (particularly for granite)
  • Try cleaning with your regular cleaning products

Comparing with Existing Elements

  • Place sample against existing cabinetry
  • Compare with flooring, wall colour, and other design elements
  • Test alongside hardware and fixture samples
  • Consider how the material complements your overall design scheme

Understanding Variation

  • Natural stone samples represent the general appearance, not exact pattern
  • Engineered quartz will have more consistent colour and pattern than shown in sample
  • Samples show a small portion of the overall pattern or veining
  • Actual slabs may have more or less variation than the sample

From Sample to Full Order

Natural Variation Expectations

  • Granite: High variation between slabs; samples represent type not exact appearance
  • Quartz: Moderate variation between production batches
  • Dekton/Porcelain/Neolith: Low variation; highly consistent between batches
